Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder, noticing that when his flock nibbled on the bright red berries of a certain bush they became more energetic (jumping goats), chewed on the fruit himself. His exhilaration prompted him to bring the berries to an Islamic monk in a nearby monastery, but the monk disapproved of their use and threw them into a fire, from which an enticing aroma billowed.

The roasted beans were quickly raked from the embers, ground up, and dissolved in hot water, yielding the world’s first cup of coffee. Kaldi Africa journeys through the African continent to discover African coffee treasures to ensure you experience the true taste of Africa one cup of coffee at a time.

About Us

Our History

Kaldi coffee is an independently owned specialty coffee roastery and coffee bar dedicated to sharing the best African arabica coffee and cocoa .

At Kaldi, the recipe for the very best cup of coffee could not be more simple: small lots of coffee beans, roasted in small batches, and served fresh. We micro roast and taste each batch to assure you have the best possible African coffee experience.

We celebrate coffee as the fresh, seasonal fruit it is, so we only sell it at the peak of flavor and freshness. Thus, our selection of coffees will grow and change as we find other spectacular coffee beans to share from across the continent.

We are passionate about what we do as we celebrate our African heritage through our products.

Collaboration & Impact

We work hand in hand with smallholder farmers across Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon, building sustainable partnerships that empower communities while bringing world-class coffee and tea to market.

Our commitment is reinforced by strong ties with both local and global regulatory bodies, including NAFDAC, SON, NEPC, CRIN, and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe. Kaldi Africa is more than a brand; it is a movement to elevate Africa’s heritage and share it with the world.
